Holy Spirit Come | The Sign of the Spirit

In his letter to the church at Corinth, Paul writes a lot about the Holy Spirit and his gifts to the church. The main thing he wants to talk about is love. Love, not gifting, is the benchmark for spiritual maturity. Love is a way of life, not an emotional experience. And love is our future. It’s permanent!

  1. How does our culture teach us to measure success? How is that different from what Paul teaches in this passage?
  2. Why might it be dangerous to view spiritual gifts as a sign of spiritual maturity?
  3. List the qualities of love that Paul includes in vv 4-8. From what you know of Jesus’ life from the Bible, when and how did Jesus show some of these qualities?
  4. Can you think of moments when you have seen these qualities of love demonstrated in people around you? Describe one of those moments and its impact.
  5. Which of these qualities is the Holy Spirit inviting you to practice? What is one thing you could do this week to do that?
