“I have no need of a bull from your stall
Or of goats from your pens,
For every animal of the forest is mine,
And the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know every bird in the mountains,
And the insects in the field are mine.
If I were hungry I would not tell you,
For the world is mine, and all that is in it.”
So, what DO you want LORD?
“Sacrifice thank offerings to God
Fulfill your vows to the Most High
And call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honour me.”
As we move into a day of praying together three pieces are clear from Psalm 50:
- Take time to give thanks. Give some ‘out-loud gratitude’ to the One who loves you most. The opposite of giving thanks is complaining; avoid that like the plague. Your gratitude could begin with thanking God for creation, for all the ‘birds of the mountains’ whom, I assume, He knows not just by species, but by name.
- Fulfill your vows. If you’ve made some promises, keep them. In your praying ask God if there is an unkept promise in your life, He’ll show you. If you made a vow to God, something like, “If you get me out of this jam I’ll…”, do the thing you promised to do.
- And call on Him in the day of trouble. You know what to do here. Pray!
And as I’m praying with you, I’m deeply grateful for each of you and the fact that we’re able to go through this together. I’m grateful that together we pray for the world our Lord loves.
Peace,
Andrew
