Generous: Living Open-Handed | How Much Can You Take With You?

God gave Moses a huge project. Moses already had a huge assignment in guiding the Israelites through the wilderness, but now God wanted an ornate Tabernacle built. It would require great skill and a pile of gold, silver and precious gems. Providentially, these very recently freed slaves had been showered with gold, silver and precious gems as they left Egypt. The question was whether they would cling to their wealth or give it away to what God was doing.

Questions:

  1. If someone gave you a million dollars, what would you do with it?
  2. The Israelites who gave to the “Tabernacle Project” did so thoughtfully, willingly and generously. Which of those three qualities is easiest for you? Which is hardest?
  3. The Bible claims that “the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it”. The Bible also teaches us that we are stewards, not owners. We take care of the Owner’s stuff. Is that the attitude you have with what you have in your care? Illustrate your answer.
  4. Why is it hard to part with money?
  5. Discuss how each of you might be able to rise into regularly giving back to God.
