Prayer Wednesday

If you’ve ever traveled in the Middle East, you’ve heard the call to prayer. I have very little experience of this but we heard it when we traveled in Egypt and then again in Jordan.

Five times a day, every day, Muslims are called to stop what they’re doing to pray. The call comes over loudspeakers from towers positioned throughout the cities and towns and villages. Nobody misses the call to pray.

This is your weekly call to prayer!

Christians don’t pray out of fear that, if they don’t pray, God will make something go bad in their lives. Christians don’t pray to get stuff from God, pressuring Him with our many words. Rather we pray to our Heavenly Father who delights to hear from us, who knows the concerns of our hearts and who enjoys giving good and needed things to us in His perfect time. He also has the whole world on His heart and moves us to pray for the good of the world too!

This Sunday we begin to study the Psalms. Psalm 1 is lined up for this Sunday (pray for me!). In Psalm 1 our Lord lays out the two options in life: a blessed life, tuned into God and His purposes; or a wicked life, disinterested in both the Design and the Designer of life.

This day let’s be prayerful on these matters:

  1. Deep gratitude for a God who put all of life together brilliantly.
  2. For other believers, from SPL but also around the world, as they navigate the events of this planet with the hope of Jesus and
  3. For those far from God. Pray that conversations would open in your own life that would provide opportunities for boldness in you and that  those previously disinterested in Jesus would come alive.

Into God’s Kingdom, by God’s power, and for His glory we pray.

Andrew
