Church 101 | Single-Minded

1 Corinthians 7:25-40

Message Questions:

  1. What expectations does our society put on singles regarding relationships and marriage?
  2. Paul says that “those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this” (v. 28). What are some of the challenges that married couples face? What are some of the challenges that singles face?
  3. The North American Protestant church has sometimes devalued singleness compared to marriage. What are some of the unique opportunities—even advantages—that singles have to live in “undivided devotion to the Lord” (v. 35)?
  4.  As you look back on the different stages of your life, what are some things that distracted you from your focus on Jesus? How are you focusing on Jesus in your current stage?
  5. How can we as a church champion both singleness and marriage? Put another way, how can we encourage one another—both our faithful singles and our married couples—in our discipleship to Jesus?
