Prayer Wednesday: The Weak

“Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless;
Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
Rescue the weak and needy;
Deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

Haiti is front and centre in the news these days devastated (again) by a powerful earthquake. Afghanistan is also in our minds as we piece together images and stories of a sinister force until recently kept at bay but now rapidly re-establishing itself in that country. Only weeks before those tragedies, we were numb and heart-broken (again) with the atrocities of Residential Schools.

“Rise up, O God, judge the earth,
For all the nations are your inheritance.”

Our LORD loves this world, he loves all these people. As you pray this day and bring these hotspots before our Heavenly Father keep your ears open to listen for ways that you and perhaps we might join our Father and rise up to ‘rescue the weak and needy.’

Praying, and listening, with you this day.

Andrew

Exodus 14:5-13 -The story of God’s rescue is not without drama! God’s people left Egypt only to come against a new opponent, the Red Sea! Exodus 12:1-14 - The story of Exodus is the story of Jesus. The God we get to know in Exodus is the God who comes to us in the person of Jesus: a God who judges, who saves, and who renews.
