Prayer Wednesday

“When I am afraid,
I will trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise,
In God I trust; I will not be afraid.”

I’m glad the writer admits to being afraid. He could have said, “I’m never afraid! I never struggle! I never doubt!” Instead, he admitted to being afraid. Like us, he (David the mighty warrior) got scared. He could see how things could go poorly. He could see how a situation might lead to his death. He could imagine the worst.

And he chose to trust . Trust is only possible when things are out of your control. There’s no need to trust anything or anyone as long as you are self-sufficient and self-assured. But when situations slip beyond your control, trust becomes an option. Your other options are fear, worry, rage, or burying your head in the sand.

Trust God.

“I trust you,” are powerful words to hear. “You have my confidence.” God loves to hear those words from us.

As you turn to pray this day, be as honest as you can before God and recognize those situations that are beyond you and where you are becoming afraid. Consider your options (worry, terror, rage …) and choose trust. Pray your trust out loud! You’ll probably have to do it several times today:

J esus, in this situation, I choose to trust You. You are good. You’ve always been good. You will be good in this for me.

Praying and trusting with you today

Andrew

James 5:13-20 - A life of faith is a life of prayer. It’s also a life lived with others. When we follow Jesus, we belong to Him and to one another as brothers and sisters. As a family, we care for one another in weakness, confess our sins to each other, and gently confront one another.
