The King Is In The Room - What's The Deal With Easter?

The story of Jesus’ Resurrection means the rest of the Bible makes sense. That morning, Jesus redeemed every story from the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden forward. You might be surprised how understated the event is, particularly in Mark’s biography. But even in Mark, the hope, the grace and our future face-to-face with Jesus is strong and secure.

Mark 16:1-8

Questions:

  1. What’s your choice for the best ending of a movie? Why is Mark’s ending so understated?
  2. The angel said, “He is risen.” Why is that not only good news for them back then but also for all who believe?
  3. The angel said, “Go tell Peter.” How might this have felt for Peter to hear that he was named specifically? Have you experienced God redeeming your failure? Tell that story.
  4. The angel said, “You will see him”. Some people say the Resurrection is just a metaphor for new life. Does it make a difference that this was a flesh-and-bones resurrection, not just a metaphor? Explain.
  5. How do you explain the hope you have because of the Resurrection to your friends who don’t yet believe?

Colossians 2:1-7-The way forward for the first Christians wasn't always easy. False teachers brought confusion and deception, prompting Paul to point believers back to the truth. Colossians 1:24-29-Suffering is one of life's hardest realities. We might expect that following Jesus would mean less pain, but Jesus himself suffered and made it clear that his followers would too. The good news is that our suffering is never lost on God and is never in vain.
