This week, we begin a seven-week study on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit shows up in the first verses of the Bible, “hovering over the waters,” in the last verses of the Bible: “The Spirit and the Bride say ‘Come’”. The Spirit shows up in many of the verses in between as well. And yet the Holy Spirit feels elusive, unpredictable and mysterious. Today, we enter that mystery by looking through the Old Testament and how the Holy Spirit showed up in those early days of faith.

Joel 2:28-32
Questions:
- Would you say that you have experienced the Holy Spirit? If so, what was/is that like? How do you understand the person and work of the Holy Spirit? How interested are you in studying and experiencing the Holy Spirit?
- Which story that talks about the Holy Spirit from the Old Testament sticks out for you, and why?
- Joel talks about a new day for the people of God in which all believers will experience the Holy Spirit, young and old, women and men. No one is left out. How could that change the way you look at yourself and others?
- Joel talks about dreams, visions and prophesying. Have you ever experienced any of these from God? If so, tell that story. If not, would you be open to God giving you His Spirit in this way?
- Joel finishes by saying, “All who call on the LORD will be saved.” It seems like Spirit longs to see those far from God come to Jesus. The Spirit is all about salvation. Does that align with your spirit and life these days?
