The Conspiracy of God | Two Different Prophets

Our message series, The Conspiracy of God , will take us through the Sermon on The Mount.

A conspiracy involves a secret power at work behind the scenes, undermining those that currently hold sway. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is God’s invitation to participate in his great conspiracy by apprenticing to Jesus.

Matthew 7:15-20

Message Questions:

  1. Tell the group about leaders you’ve had in your life. What impact did they have on you?
  2. How do you determine who you will allow to lead you?
  3. How do you tell the difference between a sheep and a wolf in sheep’s clothing?
  4. Do good trees sometimes bear bad fruit and do bad trees someone bear good fruit? How do you sort through teachers you’ve learned from who lose their way morally? Does all their teaching get put in the trash?
  5. What’s your definition of good fruit? Bad fruit?

Practice:
Galatians 5:22-24 lists the fruit of the Spirit. Take some time to meditate on this verse. You could try reading it in The Message. Try sitting in silence and seeing what God might be saying to you.

Colossians 2:13-19 - Humans have a problem that we can’t save ourselves from—not through secular programs or religious systems. The good news of Jesus is that on the cross, Jesus dealt with it all. In him we are alive, forgiven, and free!

Colossians 2:1-7-The way forward for the first Christians wasn't always easy. False teachers brought confusion and deception, prompting Paul to point believers back to the truth. Just as the best way to spot a counterfeit is to know the genuine article, the best way to recognize false teaching is to know Jesus.

Colossians 1:24-29-Suffering is one of life's hardest realities. We might expect that following Jesus would mean less pain, but Jesus himself suffered and made it clear that his followers would too. The good news is that our suffering is never lost on God and is never in vain.
