Prayer Wednesday

We are given no miraculous signs;
No prophets are left,
And none of us knows how long
This will be.

This Psalm writer lived in an awful time. It must have been during or just after Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians. Everything was destroyed—stately homes, the majestic palace, even the Temple. Destroyed. Hard not to feel like God had packed his things and left the country.

This is prayer—saying the words as pointedly as you feel the feelings:
“Why have you rejected us forever, O God?”
“How long will the enemy mock you, O God?”
“Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand?”
“Do something God!”

As we pray together today, be sure to take the time to be honest. God does his best work when believers are honest. I think of Hagar in the desert, Joseph in prison, Hannah in Shiloh, Jonah in the belly of the fish, Jesus in Gethsemane, Mary at the grave. Honest with God. Something about honesty turns the volume up with our LORD!

Honest with you this day as we pray and ask our LORD’s work in our world, in our communities, in our homes, and in our hearts.

Andrew
