Prayer Wednesday

“Vindicate me, O LORD,
For I have led a blameless life;
I have trusted in the LORD
Without wavering.
Test me, O LORD, and try me,
Examine my heart and my mind;
For your love is ever before me,
And I walk continually in your truth.”

David says he’s “unwavering,” and perhaps it’s true. His prayer (Psalm 26) sounds like one of my prayers where I’m trying to make sense of my life in the chaos that is our world. Somedays I feel like I’m sifting through the rubble after a tornado. That’s how this Psalm prays for me.

What can I hold on to when everything is swirling? When a family member isn’t well; or when it comes out that Christians have behaved deplorably; or when wrong is called right and right is called wrong?

David knows what to hang on to: “For your love is ever before me.”

God’s love is the one unwavering certainty in life. My emotions, my reactions, the events of my life are all over the map. God’s love is bedrock firm. Unwavering.

As we pray together this day let’s hold fast to the One who is not only steadfast in character but also unwavering in his love toward us.

Praying (and holding on for dear life) with you this day!

Andrew
