  1. What do you make of Jesus calling a tax collector to be one of his disciples? What would be a modern day equivalent?
  2. It seems possible that it would be the first time in their lives that a rabbi ate with those tax collectors. What would that feel like?
  3. Why are the Pharisees upset? Explain.
  4. Does this mean that God is soft on sin?
  5. Explain how eating and drinking with someone is at least the beginning of a ‘call to repentance’.
