How Do I Combat The Devil?

Temptation is unavoidable. To be human is to be tempted. Jesus was tempted, which is reassuring. For the next three weeks, we’re looking at the story of Jesus's temptation. It is always interesting to notice which temptations the devil uses to try to hook different people. This Sunday, we look at the devil’s attempt to get Jesus to turn stones into bread.

  1. What is a common temptation you face? Is there something underneath it (a lie) that the devil is trying to use against you
  2. Describe the words spoken over Jesus at His baptism (passage before ours). How does each of the Father’s three phrases resonate with you?
  3. Explain how the Spirit of God would lead Jesus into the wilderness to be tested by the devil.
  4. What’s so wrong with turning stones into bread, especially when Jesus was hungry?
  5. Explain the difference between Jesus being our Example and being our Substitute. Which is better and why?
