Church 101 | Leadership Signals

The church at Corinth gives us a glimpse into how the Kingdom landed and found shape in a rather typical First Century Roman city. Message Questions:

  1. What are some of the indicators (or signals) that our culture uses to identify leaders?
  2. Share a story of a leader who had a significant impact—positive or negative—in your life. How would you describe them and their leadership?
  3. How do the three image sets (servant vs. master, captive vs. ruler, father vs. babysitter) challenge our culture’s ideas of leadership? Where might they challenge us as a church?
  4. Think of an area where you are influencing someone—where you are a leader. Which of the three “signals” of leadership—faithful, cruciform (cross-shaped), loving—are you most exhibiting in that relationship? Which one do you want to invite the Holy Spirit to grow in you?
  5. Who are you influenced by? Do you need to make any changes in whose example you are following?

Bonus Question:
“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power” (v 20). How would you explain that statement?
