I call on the LORD in my distress
And he answers me.
The original writer of this had several sources for his distress. “Lying lips” and “deceitful tongues” were part of the problem. Another part of the problem was that everyone around him was spoiling for a fight. Everyone was on edge:
“I am a man of peace; but when I speak, they are for war.”
It’s no fun when people aren’t telling the truth; when you don’t know who to trust or how much to trust them. At some point, you feel like you’re getting played for being trusting. It’s no fun when people around you are walking around with a chip on their shoulder.
The solution in distress? Pray. I call to the LORD in my distress and he answers me. And he answers me with truth.
It’s not much more profound than this: Are you in distress? Let’s pray. And maybe as well, let’s lean into each other. For this we have Jesus and he’s the one that gave us each other.
Praying and leaning with you this day.
