Prayer Wednesday

My soul finds rest in God alone
My salvation comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

The word translated “rest” here could also be translated more literally as “silently wait.”

COVID has brought us back to the ancient experience of waiting. Everything had become so “instant.” Deposit a cheque by taking a picture of it. PVR or just binge-watch your favourite shows. High-speed internet. (Anyone miss dial-up?) Waiting was like afros and bellbottoms, from an earlier era.

But we’re waiting now! For 12 months we’ve waited and we’ll be waiting for a few months yet.

Waiting has almost always been the believer’s experience in prayer. We ask and we wait.

The question has been whether we wait anxiously or in a spirit of restful confidence. Either you believe our LORD will answer your prayer at just the right time, or you move on from prayer to try to control the outcome of your problem in another way. Wait or worry, those are our choices.

Salvation comes from him!

Waiting and praying with you,

Andrew
