“I put my hope in the LORD;
He inclined toward me,
And heeded my cry.
He lifted me out of the miry pit,
The slimy clay,
And set my feet on a rock,
Steadied my legs.
He put a new song into my mouth,
A hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and stand in awe,
And trust in the LORD.”
A miry pit is a mud pit. It’s no place to be stuck. Slimy clay must be great for doing pottery, but it’s not a place to be waist-deep. We get in those places, don’t we? Usually, it’s things we do to ourselves or things that get done to us. Either way, we’re stuck. Maybe our lives just feel ‘stuck’. Spinning our tires, summer tires in an ice-storm, going nowhere, trapped. That’s a good time to pray! Our LORD says he hears prayers from the pit. He will lift you out. He will give you a place to stand.
And he does more! He then puts a song on your lips. It’s not enough to be rescued; you’re going to want to rejoice. God has acted on your behalf. You are loved. You are noticed. Your song matters to Him. He waits to hear it.
Let’s find a way to be honest about places in our lives where we’re trapped. This day, let’s call out together. This day, find a way to sing your praise back to our Rescuer. And let’s be praying that many more will see Jesus and stand in awe and place their trust in Him.
Praying with you,
Andrew
