Church Services - Sundays 9am & 11am

This Week's Message

February 7th, 2010

Family is God's idea. Moms, dads, husbands, wives, children... all God's idea. It was supposed to be all good.

  • Husbands cherishing wives
  • Wives honoring husbands
  • Parents protecting and loving kids
  • Kids obeying parents

But it pretty much went south with the very first family. Adam and Eve got into trouble, pointed the finger of blame on someone else and then one of their boys killed his brother. I think they qualify for the first dysfunctional family. And the rest of us can honestly line up in the ‘dysfunctional family' queue ourselves. And yet God continues to choose family as an important part of His plan. God is into redeeming family; that means He's buying it back and bringing it to Life!

Responding to Haiti

In a time of tremendous need and grief God continues to show us how He sets us up to do His work. Andy Atkins returned recently to Haiti with a new team after only a few days home from the St.Paul's / Emmanuel International joint mission trip to serve Pastor Martinez at a local orphanage. Travel into Haiti continues to be a problem with the many relief agencies trying to get people and supplies in by air and sea. Andy and his team flew into Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and were assisted with land travel by Pastor Jose Lopez from the Jewels of Christ School/Cantico Nuevo Church in Hainamosa, with whom we partner. Pastor Martinez in Port au Prince has assessed damage on area schools and churches. The orphanage in Bethesda suffered little or no damage, but churches and schools in Marbial and Cabaret did suffer extensive damage. Pastor Martinez has a large community of people he is trying to serve; presently about 14,000 people at 7 community points in the Port au Prince area. They are also assisting the local church in Cabaret, Cazale, and Fond Blanc for people who have registered for aid. Andy's team has joined forces with Dominican relief efforts to assist Pastor Martinez.

St. Paul's is investigating government matching of funds through various agencies. We have chosen for the short term to send funds directly to Pastor Lopez and/or Pastor Martinez for immediate use. We wired $3200 directly on Friday that enabled a truck to deliver supplies from Santo Domingo to Pastor Martinez. Food, water, and medical supplies have already reached him on two trucks - one a direct answer to prayer as itwas not expected!

Our friends and partners in the Dominican Republic are greatly serving this new mission field. We will continue to report weekly in the bulletin on distribution of donations, personal updates, and answered prayers. Continue to pray for Pastor Martinez, Andy Atkins, Dave and Andrew Lock, Dr. Tony Brown and Dr. Paul Puckrin, as well as agencies they have connected with on the ground to serve this area: Emmanuel International, Feed the Children, and Samaritan's Purse. Pray also for Pastor Fidel and Pastor Jose as they coordinate aid.

We encourage you to give generously to support rebuilding of lives in Haiti. This is long-term work as well as immediate life-saving support. We are being called into a whole new level of commitment to a mission field where God has already put partners in place.

He is truly the one who initiates, leads and perfects everything.
